"I'm going to surpass you, dad." ― Gohan (Beast) to Goku (Ultra Instinct)
Gohan (Beast) (ビースト Son Gohan Bīsuto) is a major DLC character to be added to Dragon Ball Xenoverse 2. He is the 39th overall DLC character added into the game, as well as the 7th playable Gohan character. He was released on May 11th, 2023 alongside Piccolo (Power Awakening) and his Orange counterpart, as part of the paid update of the Hero Of Justice Pack 2 DLC.
This version of Gohan is him at his absolute strongest, having awakening the form Beast after witnessing Orange Piccolo's defeat at the hands of Cell Max in Dragon Ball Super: Super Hero. With a Beast-Charged Special Beam Cannon, he was able to vanquish the foe once and for all, with the help of Orange Piccolo of course.

Quests[]
Parallel Quest 160 - "Pan in Peril"[]
After Vegeta and Goku fuse into Gogeta (Super Saiyan 4), the fusion pressures Gohan to awaken his Beast state, distracting Gohan from his main goal of finding Pan.
Once Gogeta is down for the count, Gohan reverts back into his base, who he is then reminded by Piccolo that his daughter was found and safely rescued from the hands of the Red Ribbon Army. Gogeta listens in, causing him to be annoyed with Gohan because they had been fighting over nothing. He even goes as far as calling Gohan a "dumbass."
Parallel Quest 161 - "Scream Team vs. Dream Team"[]
After witnessing Orange Piccolo's defeat at the hands of Cell (Full Power) Supervillain and the player, he awakens his Beast state and states to the both of them: "You're not leaving here in one piece!"
After being knocked down the first time, he is shaken up by Piccolo, who had managed to recover as he tells him to "bring hell" to both the player and Cell (FP) Supervillain together. The two get up and prepare to fight them once more.
When he is down for the count for the final time, Gohan tells Cell to stop, believing he might destroy the earth. Cell then reassures him that, so long as the Planet still has strong fighters on it like him and the player, then he'll leave it be...for now.
Story Mode[]
In the Extra Missions from the Hero Of Justice Pack 2 DLC, after fighting Cell Max for a while in the Wasteland alongside Piccolo, the Gamma's, Android 16 and Android 21, the user will be presented with two options. "Save Gamma 2" or "Save Android 16". If the user chooses to save Gamma 2, Android 16 will sacrifice himself in an attempt to put a dent into the monsterous brute. The Gamma's go to retrieve his body and as Cell Max prepares to put his foot down on the Androids, Orange Piccolo intervenes and momentarily holds him off long enough for the Gammas to escape before getting stomped on. This causes Gohan to snap, and leads into the Beast transformation from the movie.
After fighting Cell Max and tiring him out, Gohan Beast prepares to charge up his Special Beam Cannon (Beast), before being joined with Orange Piccolo in which he charges his own Special Beam Cannon as well. Similarly to the Father-Son Kamehameha, the two share beams and use it to defeat Cell Max, aiming right for his head, killing the brute indefinitely.
Combos[]
- Light String (9L): Starts off with variating punches and kicks. 7th hits the opponent into the air, 8th knocks them forward and final hit sends them down with a rotating heel kick, granting the user an opportunity to land the kick input of Special Beam Cannon (Beast) only when near a ground-like surface. If the player chooses to end the combo with a heavy attack input instead, Gohan will raise his arms up and burst open his aura, causing the opponent to fly backwards.
- Heavy String (5H): Gohan fires off a string of heavy kicks and punches. The last hit leaves a notable stun, allowing for a light break or use of a skill.
- LHH: A punch, a kick and an airwave that knocks the opponent back. Can follow up with a boost dash or Demon Flash Strike.
- 5L3H: Continues the back and forth punching and kicking. Upon the 8th hit, the opponent is launched into the air, ending in a similar fashion to that of a correctly timed final input of Demon Flurry.
- Alternating String (HLHLH): First hit is a punch, then a sliding kick, afterwards, a hit that knocks the opponent away before vanishing and hitting the opponent with a powerful back chop and finally, finishing off with a ferocious aura burst.
- Grab: Gohan lifts the opponent in the air before airdiving them to the ground, stunning them briefly. Can be followed up with an attack.
- Light Break: Hits with his elbow.
- Heavy Break: Does a rotating heel kick that knocks the opponent downwards.
- Backhit: Swiftly swipes the opponent off with his right arm.

Usage Tips[]
His heavy string combo leaves an opening for an attack, so consider your options when prompting for it. 6L also leaves an attack open for you to use but time your inputs right or else you'll be punished for it. The only downsides to this character is his low health and stamina distrubitions, a small price to pay for his incredibly high damage output.
His Super Soul, "Is that all?" requires you to Just Guard (Perfect Block) an opponents attack to activate, but when you do, Ki Blasts and Strike skills are boosted by 10% and 5% each respectively, which can be stacked up to 5 times. With his already insane damage in base alone, these effects added along into it makes him a very dangerous opponent to fight. To top it all off, his Limit Burst is Super Armor, requiring Grabs or Grab-like moves to land in order to make yourself less vulnerable to his attacks.
Demon Flash Strike can warp to the opponent upon additional input, and is very effective after a knockback and can combo into Demon Ray. It can be also be used as defense against Strike attacks, which deals more damage than the warp. As of Ver. 1.21.00, the counter has been nerfed to be susceptible to grabs and being left wide open upon succeeding in landing the kick.
Reverse Mabakusenko is a good way to counter and protect yourself from your opponents attacks while at the same time, dealing significant amount of damage back at them, much more so than with other characters who use this same move. Though it has a glaring weakness in that the opponent can easily set you up, either by stepping away/standing idle therefore wasting your Ki or vanishing in time and breaking your guard, forcing you out of the move. Be mindful of how you use this.
Demon Ray has a lot of great potential, which can either be used for combo extensions, as an evasive or as a quick attack. It's biggest highlight however lies with the follow up mechanic, being able to connect with other attacks, such as, in Gohan (Beast)'s case, Special Beam Cannon (Beast) and Demon Flash Strike. Should you not choose to follow up with the Kamehameha wave, these two can be used instead and is ideally and generally better as follow ups simply because they deal much more damage. Or if you're looking to save Ki, a simple step-dash to your opponent and a combo string will find you extending your previous one. Can land after a vanish, charged heavy or the end of the 5H/HLHLH combos.
If you're looking for high damage at the cost of little Ki usage, Demon Flurry is that. In base, it doesn't deal much, only dealing around 10-15% damage, but if you manage to time your inputs correctly, you can find yourself ripping away at an opponent's health bar in a span of a few seconds. However, it requires you to rapidly press on the button and timing it right for the full move to come out, meaning, if you're not careful, the move can be stopped at anytime and damage won't be nearly as great as it can be. Some recommendations for landing this move is in a middle of a close ranged combo, a charged heavy or in his basic 5H combo string. You could also use it before the final hit of his 5L3H lands.
Special Beam Cannon (Beast) works much like Gigantic Roar. The lower your health, the more damage it deals. As previously mentioned, it can be comboed into Demon Ray using the stun kick command. To do this, move the control stick up while inputting the attack. The kick can easily be countered with a well-timed block but if it lands, it can mean the end for your opponent. The kick has limited range, and can land into the basic 9L combo string if you're close to the ground. You might find it easier to land if you stamina break your opponent first.
To some, Evil Whirlwind can be seen as the upgrade to Spirit Slash, but due to it's high stamina cost for so little damage, it is almost not worth using unless you're forced to do so or surrounded by multiple enemies. Whereas the former evasive mentioned had a rework buff added for Gohan DBSSH in that it could warp to the opponent when charged all the way, this move has no special properties and only serves to be a weaker and more expensive version of it's super counterpart, which in itself is already lackluster.
Trivia[]
- This marks the fourth time that Gohan (Beast) makes an appearance in a Dragon Ball video game.
- The camera pans differently on him at the start of a PvP/PvE match.
- He is the only other cast character to have Ultimate Charge equipped by default, the other being Toppo (God of Destruction). Interestingly, Gohan (Beast)'s version of Ultimate Charge resembles that of Surging Spirit, but unfortunately does not reap the benefit of the faster charge.
- In the Story Mode cutscene of Gohan transforming into his Beast state, the framerate of his transformation is much higher than it is in the movie.
- He has the highest overall attack damage in the game.
- His Special Beam Cannon (Beast) has his hair flair up whereas for CaC's, this detail is missing, making it somewhat unique to Gohan.
- His tone when yelling "Special Beam Cannon!" is different when charging it up and using the stun kick.
- His idle animation features a little nod to his movie debut where he shows off his smirk.
- The Beast Awoken Skill was added before his character was introduced to the game ironically enough.
