Dragon Ball Xenoverse 2's main story, referred to in game as Time Patrol Quests, consist of thirteen missions. Most of the game's content is gated behind completion of the story, and each new character has to play through it, unlike in Xenoverse 1. Each story mission and cutscene can be replayed from the Time Vault inside Time Nest.

Prologue[]

Towa, alongside rebuilt Mira has returned, and started gathering new allies, including Turles, Lord Slug and Bardock, whom she saved from his demise at the hands of Freeza and mind controlled him to join her cause.

Two years after the events of first game, the Time Patrol has also expanded, moving from destroyed Toki-Toki City to Conton City. The Future Warrior, a rookie patroller, while investigating one of the Conton City rifts associated with their race is informed by Elder Kai that they've been chosen to participate in a critical mission, working directly under Supreme Kai of Time.

In the city, Future Warrior is introduced to hub navigation, and has to talk to several people around shopping district to look for Elder Kai. After finding him before proceeding to the first mission, Future Warrior is presented with an opportunity to play through a battle tutorial.

Raditz's Attack[]

Empowered with Towa's dark energy, Raditz manages to blast Piccolo away and nearly kill Goku. Future Warrior, after making a sloppy entrance, helps Goku beat up his brother to weaken him enough to execute the full nelson manouver. They leave the scene right after, but in a distance Turles and Slug are seen overlooking the scene.

Coming back to Conton City, Supreme Kai of Time tells you the story of the hero from the first game, presenting you the holographic statue in the middle of shopping district. If this is your first time playing, this is the point where you're given the opportunity to select the XV1 hero that will appear in the story. This choice will carry over to all future characters, and cannot be changed without save editing or making a new save altogether.

Before continuing the story, you must complete the PQ1, talk to Elder Kai over at Patroller Academy to learn about mentors and advancement tests, then finally talk to Supreme Kai of Time at the hero statue again.

Battles:

  • Make Away, Rookie Time Patroller Here!

The next two missions can be done in order you choose, letting you pick between Saiyan Saga, and the first part of Namek Saga.

The Saiyan Threat[]

Following the DBZ story, Time Breakers next target the time of Nappa and Vegeta's attack. Future Warrior is first sent to help in fight against Nappa, taking on all the main fighters by himself. After a while, they are informed that Goku has been interruped in his return by another Saiyan, who turns out to be Turles. Helping Goku ward off his doppelganger, who is chased off by the XV1 Hero, they then return to the main site, where only Gohan and Krillin remain. Future Warrior faces off against Nappa, while Goku goes to fight Vegeta right away, and they both win their initial clashes, but fail to finish off their opponents. Vegeta then proceeds to use his fake sun move, with Nappa still alive to help him, forcing the heroes to face off against two Great Apes. Ultimately, thanks to the protagonist power and some bomb ki blasts, the evil is defeated once more. At the end, Future Warrior defends Vegeta from Krillin, preserving the original turn of events.

Battles:

  • Saiyan Siege! - Defend the Earth
  • Turles, the Other Saiyan
  • Saiyan Brutality! - Beyond the Limits
  • Power x10 x2? Great Ape Transformation

Whether this mission or the Namek mission was chosen to be completed first, Future Warrior is then required to complete the Conton Rift tutorial, they need to go to all the rifts, and read details about their specific missions. The rift missions are also unlocked at this point, but not required to progress yet, each mission is also gated with some combination of Future Warrior level and story progress.

Ruckus on Planet Namek[]

In the next part, Future Warrior ventures to Namek in a mission showing off three XV2 newcomers. First, they help Krillin and Gohan run away from Zarbon and Dodoria, who both went after the heroes due to Towa's influence. Then, they are confronted by Lord Slug, later chased by Time Patrol's Future Trunks. Finally, they go help Vegeta fight against empowered Dodoria.

Battles:

  • Frieza's Aides - Zarbon and Dodoria
  • Lord Slug, the Wicked Namekian!
  • Careful, Vegeta! Dodoria in Pursuit

Whether this or the Saiyan Saga mission were completed second, multiFuture Warrior lobby is unlocked after this point.

Interlude[]

Future Warrior is properly introduced to both Trunks and XV1 Hero, who failed to catch their targets. Trunks and Supreme Kai of Time also introduce Towa and Mira, who they suspect are behind the recent changes in history. Changing perspective to the Time Breakers, we are shown Turles and Slug bickering with their superiors. Towa gifts them with the fruits of the Tree of Might, empowered by the Demon Realm, and sends them on their way. Mira criticises Towa not using her mind control on them like with Bardock, but she deems it unnecessary.

In another cutscene the kais explain to the Future Warrior who Turles and Slug are. She ends the conversation short however, as she has to prepare for Tokitoki laying an egg. As the divine bird of time, its eggs are the starting material of whole new universes and possess tremendous power.

Cutscenes:

  • Greetings! - Trunks, History's Hero
  • The Egg that Birthed Time

The Ginyu Force Strikes[]

This section of the story covers the face off against the Ginyu force. We are first shown the events changed by the Breakers - Ginyu successfully taking over Vegeta's body. Once the Future Warrior gets to the place, they first fight off Guldo, Recoome, Burter and Jeice. In the midst of battle, Goku arrives to help, but before they can finish off the last two, they are stopped by Turles and Slug, who give the surviving Ginyu Force members fruits of the Tree of Might. Ultimately their efforts are ineffecitve, as the fruits weren't enough to close the power gap, however Jeice is saved by the return of Captain Ginyu - Unexpectedly in the body of Trunks, with wounded Trunks in Ginyu's body following after. In battle, Ginyu when pushed back attempts to exchange bodies with Goku, letting Trunks take the opportunity to regain his body and run away. Before Ginyu can be finished off, Turles shows up again, holding Goku in the legendary full nelson to help Ginyu steal his body, ironically restoring proper flow of history in the process. Turles is fought off, and when desparate Ginyu attempts to steal Future Warrior's body, Goku both manages to regain his own, and trap Ginyu in a body of a frog.

Battles:

  • All Together Now! - The Ginyu Force
  • It's Goku! - Nefarious Plans Afoot
  • Return My Body! - Trunks's Blunder

The Galactic Emperor[]

Following the rest of the Namek saga, this mission begins with Future Warrior helping Nail hold off Freeza to give Krillin and Gohan time to use the dragon balls. However during your encounter, Turles and Slug steal the dragon balls. With a little help from Supreme Kai of Time, you intercept them, and begin the final battle against them. Despite the magic of Towa's new spell supporting them, with Trunks's support Future Warrior manages to kill them for good. The Future Warrior holds Freeza off while Goku prepares the Spirit Bomb instead of Piccolo, until Namek is almsot blown up bef. With Goku now as a Super Saiyan and with a powerful ally by his side, the odds of battle are evened by appearance of Cooler, but ultimately he is defeated, with Future Warrior leaving Goku alone to finish his battle with Freeza. Future Warrior rushes over to Trunks and XV1 Hero fighting Mira elsewhere, who upon their apperance decides to retreat. XV1 Hero follows in pursuit, while the rest return to the time nest. In a distance, Bardock has been watching the scene silently, before disappearing as well.

Battles:

  • Evil Ambitions - Turles and Slug
  • Fear Has Many Forms - Emperor Frieza
  • Goku's Rage! - Birth of a Super Saiyan
  • The Final Battle! - Two Powers Fade

Upon the completion of this mission, Future Warrior is promoted to an Elite Patroller, granting them flying license for Conton City in the process. The next two missions can be done in either order, similarily to Saiyan Saga and the first mission of Namek Saga.

Android Warfare[]

This mission covers the Cell saga. We are first shown off the change made by Towa: empowered Cell manages to absorb Androids 17 and 18 in their first encounter right away. The Future Warrior joins in the battle before that, back in the face off between Piccolo and 17. Beating up the magic out of both 17 and Cell, Future Warrior once again restores the original flow of history. Moving forward, we arrive at Cell games, where nearby Mira is present. After fighting Future Warrior and Trunks for a bit, he retreats, indicating he was just a distaction. Back at the arena, Cell Jrs have been strengthened and Gohan couldn't kill them all easily like he should, but the real main event happens after the Cell Jrs have been beaten down, with an unexpected return of Cooler, in his Metal form. Future Warrior fights off the Coolers through the portal to New Namek, where they are once again assisted by Trunks, who with the powers of his mad hacking skills manages to destroy the Big Gete Star. Future Warrior then returns back to the battle between Gohan and Cell for little reason than to watch.

Battles:

  • Strategic Uncertainty - The Android Cell
  • Mira, Warrior from the Demon Realm
  • Awake, Gohan! Unlesh your Hidden Power
  • Revived! A Power Level of 10 Billion
  • Father to Son - The Last Kamehameha

A Desparate Future[]

This mission covers events in Future Trunks's timeline. It starts off with Future Gohan encountering Android 16 while he's on his way to fight Androids on the night he's supposed to die. Future Warrior comes to help, but 16 is soon supported by Mira. Trunks, panicking, breaks the rules and joins the battle to help Gohan. Together, the three manage to destroy 16 and force Mira to retreat, but Trunks still wants to stay and help Gohan. Gohan, understanding that something is wrong refuses his help, expressing his hope that since Trunks appears older, the time machine must have worked, and thus his battle was not in vain. The patrollers depart, with Trunks resting while Future Warrior soon recieves another mission. The second mission covers Trunks's return to his timeline, where he is met with prematurely grown Cell that already absorbed 17 and 18 of that timeline, as well as Android 16. With little more fanfare, Trunks of that time and the Future Warrior fight off and kill the two. The mission ends in a cutscene of Trunks once again observing the events in the scroll. Despite the history being corrected, Gohan's final moments have changed slightly. He tells the androids that even if he dies, another person will take his place and eventually defeat them, alluding to his knowledge of Trunks.

Battles:

  • Fighting for Hope! Future Warrior Gohan
  • Trunks: The Last Fighter

Cutscenes:

  • Seeds of Hope for a Desparate Future

Once this mission and Android Warfare missions have been completed, Future Warrior has to complete first and second Expert Missions, which serve as tutorials to all their mechanics.

Decisive Battle with Majin Buu[]

This mission covers the Buu Saga. It begins when the face off between Goku and Majin Vegeta is interrupted by appearance of Broly. Once the Future Warrior defeats him, they support Vegeta against Buu, before he performs his sacrificial attack. Next they follow further into the future, supporting Super Saiyan 3 Gotenks and Piccolo against strengthened Super Buu, before Gohan arrives. Once that happens, the battle is once again interuppted by revived Broly in a brand new supervillain form, courtesy of Towa. In the meantime, Vegeta has been prevented from leaving hell by Janemba, who has also successfully defeated Trunks. Future Warrior alongside Vegeta fight him off, letting you skip further into the future again, this time to the final showdown between Goku and Kid Buu on the Supreme Kai's World, where nothing is different, except Kid Buu being made slightly stronger. With the battle complete, Future Warrior still has no time for rest, as they realize they're being watched.

Battles:

  • Out of my Way! - Life or Death Battle
  • Buu's Snack! Super Buu Attacks
  • Gohan's Power Reborn
  • Angel from the Underworld, Janemba
  • A Momentous Galactic Battle

God of Destruction's Anger[]

Following immediately after the last mission, Future Warrior finds the Masked Saiyan observing them. He attempts to run, but the Future Warrior manages to follow him in the last moment, as he arrives sometime into the future, nearby the space battle of Beerus and Goku. Ignoring the change in surroundings, Future Warrior continues the battle, with Bardock eventually being joined by Mira once his mask is cracked, finally revealing his identity to the Patrollers. They are however interrupted by impatient Beerus, who angered by the bizarre happenings, decides to destroy everyone around him. To salvage the situation, Supreme Kai of Time delivers pudding to the patroller to give to Beerus. Calmed down, and overjoyed with the opportunity to eat the food he missed earlier, he offers it to everyone. With their fighting mood gone, Mira and Bardock leave. The troubles are not over yet, however, as the pudding turns out to have been made by the Supreme Kai of Time herself, whose culinary powers somehow turn any food into horrible tasting poison. Beerus is angered once again, while Goku is put out of commission by stomach cramps, requiring Future Warrior and Whis to subdue the God of Destruction. With that task, Future Warrior is finally given time to rest.

Battles:

  • Decisive Battle in Divine Company
  • The Pudding Problem - Beerus's Fury

The Emperor's Return[]

With the last mission covering the Battle of Gods story, this one covers Resurrection of Freeza. The story begins with earth fighters being overwhelmed by empowered Freeza's army. After fighting them off for a bit, Freeza decides to battle the Future Warrior, passing the time before Goku and Vegeta's arrival. With Goku showing off with SSGSS immediately, Freeza reveals his Golden Form, further strengthened by Towa's magic. A short while into the battle, Cooler shows up again, still in metal but only in one body, revealing another wish from the Earth's Dragon Balls was used to resurrect him alongside his brother, prompting Vegeta to join the battle as well. Eventually Goku defeated Freeza, but while preparing to kill him, Freeza destroyed the Earth, with Trunks pulling Future Warrior out of there at the last moment. But something is wrong. During the battle, Whis and Beerus have seemingly recieved a message from Supreme Kai of Time, prompting them to leave, and not be present to save the main group and rewind time. In the time nest, where the patrollers met with Beerus and Whis, this misunderstanding was cleared out, and they were sent back to that time, allowing Whis to rewind Earth's destruction, and the Future Warrior to stop Freeza. To keep the fight going, Freeza and Cooler were further empowered, granting them supervillain forms as well, but the effort proved futile at the end. The trouble is not over yet, however. Beerus, angry that he was tricked by Towa, decides to stop the Breakers himself. Worried that he might break history, and to not let him overstep his boundaries, Supreme Kai of time implores him to stop, and ultimately Beerus and Whis decide to measure Future Warrior's ability to determine whether they can leave the task to them. With Beerus on their side for a short while, Future Warrior faces off against Whis, proving their strength. Convinced his help is not needed, Beerus makes his leave.

Battles:

  • The Emperor of Dread Returns
  • Golden Frieza - The Nemesis's Revenge
  • Fraternal Fright! The Brothers Return
  • Time to Train! - Whis's Whimsy

The Masked Saiyan[]

Knowing the identity of the Masked Saiyan, Patrollers investigate Planet Vegeta's destruction, the supposed place of Bardock's death. Finding the link to Towa, they follow her through, finding her alongside Bardock and Mira. Future Warrior and Trunks face off against them, eventually managing to defeat Bardock and beat the mask off of him. However they fall into Towa's trap, who uses a spell to try to trap them in space between dimensions. While Mira protests having his battle won by such a trick, the heroes are unexpectedly saved by Bardock, who having woke up blasted them out of the portal. Bardock, furious for having been controlled for so long, decides to take revenge on Mira, whom he catches in the legendary full nelson, and pulls himself with him into the portal left by Towa. Having lost both of her tools, Towa pulls out another weapon, the missing XV1 Hero, who turns out has been captured and controlled, much like Bardock. Trunks and Future Warrior however win once again, breaking the hero out of Towa's control. Angered by having all her plans crossed, Towa escapes back in time again, pulling off a particularly sinister move, completely erasing XV1 Hero from history. With their memories altered by the sudden change, Future Warrior and Trunks are unable to fully recall the events to the battle they just went through, and are left with the mask from XV1 Hero as their only clue.

Battles:

  • Bardock, the Masked Man
  • Towa's Secrets - Heroic Manipulation

In order to progress after this point, you must obtain or already have obtained your racial transformation from the Conton Rift.

Warrior from the Demon World[]

Returning to the time nest, patrollers try to determine what transpired, and what they are missing. Eventually, looking at the mask, Trunks finally remembers his partner from XV1, and tries to look into the moment of the past when he summoned them to Tokitoki City. As it turns out, Towa went there and killed Shenron before Trunks could complete his wish. With the Time Nest suddenly appearing to crumble, Future Warrior is sent off to stop Towa. Forcing her to retreat, and accidentally inspiring Trunks to summon a hero just like them Future Warrior seems to finally bring everything back to normal. However Towa bring it back around with her final move. The mask patrollers brought into the Time Nest allowed her to inflitrate Conton City's barrier, and steal Tokitoki's new egg. With its power, she gathers more power than ever before, even managing to open the space between dimensions again and pull Mira out, something she claimed was a one way trip before. Shooting down Trunks, Mira prepares to finish off Future Warrior as well, but they are saved by the XV1 Hero. Before they faint, they encourage Future Warrior to follow after Mira and Towa through the portal they left by. Future Warrior faces off against Mira in the final battle, who gets more and more excited from the challenge, surprising Towa. He keeps drawing more and more power, starting to risk a universal explosion, and stops listening to Towa's orders. Desparate to stop him, Towa supports the Future Warrior, until they beat Mira down. Angry that he ruined her plans, she decides to take his core out for repairs. Mira however wasn't fully down for the count, and continuing to act independently, he apprehends Towa and absorbs her alongside the time egg to evolve his own power. With his new form, he appears to be too powerful for Future Warrior to handle on their own, however Goku appears to support them, having asked Whis a favour to let him into the Time Nest and into that battle. If the Future Warrior beats Mira fast enough, they finish him off with a Dragon Fist, in one fell swoop they manage to take the egg out of him, and mortally wound him. If the Future Warrior is too slow, Goku delivers the Dragon Fist instead, recovering the egg, leaving the Future Warrior to use Kamehameha on the mangled half alive body of Mira. In his last moment, Mira expresses regret for not being able to fight more, and for having dragged Towa down with him. With Mira defeated, Time Patrol celebrates by using dragon balls to make a big feast. Before Goku, Whis and Beerus depart, Goku expresses interest in which of the game's heroes are stronger, XV1 or 2's.

Battles:

  • By Shenron's Might! - History Restored
  • Final Battle! Re-Righting History

Unknown History[]

After obtaining all five distored time eggs from the Conton City rifts, more history is revealed to the Future Warrior. These missions are different from regular missions, in that you're forced to play them as preset cast members with set power, because you're not changing or fixing history this time. First you are shown what happened between Bardock and Mira in the space between dimensions. Bardock, going up to Super Saiyan 3 managed to defeat Mira, and cause him to reevaluate his life, explaining his change in character between the time he was gone. Future Warrior is asked their opinion of what happened to Bardock after this battle, with most Future Warriors over the lifespan of the game having chosen that he survived. The second mission has you watch another battle - Future Gohan after you saved him from 16 and Mira went on to fight 17 and 18 as he was supposed to. However Time Patrol's Trunks appears again, evening the odds, and saving Gohan. Despite this enourmous history change and rule break, Supreme Kai of Time wonders if they could let Trunks have something for once, once again asking Future Warrior their opinion. Most Future Warriors have chosen to vouch to leave it be.
